Coaching for Adopters and Carers
The adoption road is an emotional rollercoaster. From desire and disappointment to sadness, persistence, grief and eventually joy. Just when you become a parent you begin dealing with attachment and trauma issues. Support is in short supply and understanding rarer still.
As an adoptive parent myself I too am on this journey. Family and friends can be unaware of the challenges and heartache involved.
You can spend so much mental, emotional and physical energy on your child's needs, that you forget to look after your needs.
The responsibility of trying to keep another human being safe and well can be overwhelming, especially if they struggle to connect due to diagnoses and trauma. This is all part of the adoption experience.
Most often you will also need to advocate for your child with other parents, family, schools and more. There are many frustrations and disappointments alongside the celebrations. Resilience is important and replenishment is necessary.
When you are looking after your child, who is there to support you? How would it be to find a regular space where you can be you, in all the messy chaos that you are dealing with?
A place where you can put on your oxygen mask so you can be there to help others. If you do not look after yourself the stress and overwhelm can lead to fatigue, burnout and ultimately illness.
So often we hear of seemingly fit people going down with long-term illnesses. How do you look after your physical, mental and emotional health? Do you have a space to explore your needs and someone to hold you accountable …to you?
This is why I’ve designed my coaching program where I support you to Reconnect, Replenish and Recreate your life. I have an extensive tool box from 30 years in the personal development space with a BSc in Psychology and Sociology, a diploma in Counselling and an MA in Careers Guidance. I have been a member of the BACP since 2007.
I will be making good use of the One of Many PowerTypes so you can connect to more parts of yourself for this transformational experience. The archetypes of Mother, Lover, Warrior, Sorcerer and Queen support the need to parent ourselves as we fight for our children.
With many other tools I can help you to be well and be whole. I also make use of mindfulness, journalling and therapeutic writing as appropriate.
My mission is always to support you to take the best next steps so that you can create the life you want. My approach also supports parents, step parents, special guardians and carers.
With a gentle caring steer I can help you avoid exhaustion and compassion fatigue to find self-compassion, joy, ease and joy. You will rediscover who you are and what makes your heart sing.
I enjoy walks in nature, nature photography, writing, cooking, films and fashion.
As a 3x author I am currently working on my fourth book - helping to share ordinary stories of adoption.
Email me [email protected] to discuss your needs and design your bespoke 12 week (session) individual coaching program with me. Looking forward to connecting .
