Dr Frances Sturridge (Rossouw)
I am currently 58 years old and have a wonderful, fulfilling, imperfect life.
I have worked as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist , GP and academic, doing research into menopause, women's health and genomic medicine since 1988 and have taught and mentored other doctors and allied health professionals since 1998. I am also a wife, sister and mother of 3 grown up children.
I have personally experienced significant childhood trauma, suicide of a parent , chronic health problems and support an adult child with a life-threatening illness, a semi-retired husband of 32 years and a menagerie of dogs and hens .
I have survived and thrived at different times during my life, exploring outside interests to navigate some challenging periods. Dance was my first passion as a child which was curtailed when I developed a progressive motor and sensory muscular dystrophy in my early teens. I switched to becoming obsessed with health and medicine as a career choice to give me independence and a passport to travel, and rode horses and bicycles far and fast, to overcome my physical limitations.
When I couldn't physically manage delivering babies and operating in 1998, I switched to General Practice and studied Natural Healing,Reiki and Acupuncture. I was "given" a large chestnut "rescue" horse "Kayleigh" with a lot of behavioural issues and the biggest heart in the world. We "grew up" again, together, and had many magical horse adventures over 20 years.
In 2013 I bought a flat in Paris having always wanted to speak french fluently. In 2016 I went back to university to do an MSc in Genomic Medicine and completed a dissertation about preventing neonatal deafness. In 2020 I opened a dance studio finally fulfilling that childhood dream.
I am passionate about supporting and empowering men and women to thrive and live their best lives despite the challenges that life throws at all of us. I am an advocate of personalised medicine and love to work with people with unexplained medical symptoms, long term conditions and neurodiversity. I continue to work as a GP, dance at AV Dance Magic and am Trustee of an Equine Assisted Behavioral Therapy Charity "The London Horseplay Centre,"
